Cat’s Tail Straight up in the Air

“A grey cat with its tail straight up in the air was rubbing itself against one of the table legs, and with a plaintive mew proclaiming its desire for food.”
A Living Chattel by Anton Chekhov

My tail high in the air means something else. But what? Try to guess.

Thank you for your comment. It is quite possible that you are right. My question was provocative because my mistress’s knowledge of cat’s body language is still not satisfactory. She doesn’t know much about my tail holding high.

Thank you for your comment. Presumably you are right. Mine was the provocative question. My mistress catches herself in the fact that she doesn’t understand some positions of my tail.
