The town Nikolaevsk; “the majestic and beautiful place, but the memories about the past of this region, stories of co-wanderers about fierce winter and not less evil local customs, the proximity of penal servitude and the type of abandoned and dying town take away willingness to enthuse about scenery.”
“Sakhalin Island” by Anton Chekhov
The citizens of Nikolaevsk were conducting “the sleepy, drunk life”. Although we are not experience situations presented by Chekhov, we often suffer similarly to citizens of Nikolaevsk. In order not to suffer, it is possible to apply the following trick. It is necessary to think that everything what is giving us sleepless nights, is only pieces of rubbish. Then pointing our eyesight to the beautiful landscape and absorbing it, we are cleaning ourselves from unnecessary torments.
